Getting to the Brazilian Pantanal from Argentina

Getting to the Brazilian Pantanal from Argentina

The Pantanal wetlands are the best option for viewing animals on the South American continent - and many people venture there via Brazil to view significant varieties of birds, in addition to larger wildlife such as crocodiles, anacondas or even the evasive jaguar if you are lucky. One question we get asked a lot is how to get to teh Brazilian Pantanal from Argentina overland.

What is the Pantanal?

The Pantanal is an extremely ecologically rich location as well as among one of the most naturally abundant areas in terms of wildlife on our earth. Extending through countless hectares of the western part of Brazil, it's swamped meadows, savannas and also tropical woodlands also touch parts of eastern Bolivia and Paraguay. Due to its sheer size, it flaunts a fantastic variety of ecological sub-regions with unique plant and animal life. The unparalleled habitat of the Pantanal is the home of hundreds of species of birds, hundreds of various types of butterfly and fish, as well as countless untamed wildflowers. The variety of mammals and reptiles that inhabit the location is absolutely nothing short of amazing, yet if you keep your eyes open you are most likely to come across, alligators, anacondas, giant stream otters, Capuchin and also howler monkeys. The evasive Jaguar is the main attraction in the area, although they are becoming less in number and you must be lucky to spot one.

Argentina to the Pantanal Overland

The quickest and easiest way to get from Argentina to the Brazilian Pantanal is by crossing the border at Iguassu and carrying onto the city of Campo Grande by bus, which is gateway to the southern Pantanal. If in Argentina you need to first head to the town of Puerto Iguazu which borders Brazil, this is also a convenient way to see the Iguassu falls on the way to the Pantanal, because the falls can be visited from both sides of the border. After crossing from Puerto Iguazu to the city of Foz do Iguacu on the Brazil side, you can take the daily bus to Campo Grande which is located 16 hours north, and from there it is a 4 - 5 hours drive into the Pantanal depending on which part you are going to.
