Itinerary for 2017
Today our guests will start arriving for the tour. Our hotel is in Lapa, right in the heart of Rio's magnificent bohemian section, where all the action takes place, where every major Carnival event and party is held. Hotel check-in starts at 2:00 p.m., but you are welcome to arrive at any time. Upon arrival our team will be there to greet you and show you to your room. At that time we will answer any questions you have and make sure you are fully informed on everything, take you on a personal tour of the hotel, and provide you with maps of the area.
Our hotel is just a 10-minute stroll from Rio's vibrant cultural scene and nightlife filled with theatres, Samba clubs, capoeira halls and a bevy of old historical structures that have been turned into restaurants, bustling bars and cafes, and antique stores filled with treasures. This is also where the legendary Lapa Arches are located. As you explore the area you will enjoy shopping in the outdoor markets, sip coffee at a sidewalk café while people watching, or indulge in a fabulous Brazilian manicure.
Our group will meet in the hotel lobby at 5:30 p.m., and then the festivities begin . . . starting with Caipirinha cocktails for everyone! This evening you are invited as guests to join us at a Roof-top Cocktail Welcome Party.
After a few cocktails to loosen up, we'll take a group Samba class to get in the swing of things and have our faces painted before joining the crowds in the street to celebrate the first night of Carnival. Our team will be on hand escorting us to all the best parties. Since this is the first night of celebrations - the town will be electric with excitement!
This morning at breakfast, as on every other morning of the tour, our guides will be there to remind you of the day's activities, answer your questions and make sure you have all the information you need.
'Céu na Terra' performs every Saturday morning in Santa Teresa during Carnival. They are among the very best and largest blocos in Rio and put on an amazing show. Our guides will gladly accompany those of you who want to see this performance!
In the afternoon, after lunch time, we will be taken to Gloria Marina where we will all board an incredible private yacht for a leisurely 3 to 4 hour luxury cruise enjoying the gorgeous sights around Rio's Guanabara Bay!
Being onboard gives us an opportunity to see the city from the water, which is an entirely different vantage point. We'll see Sugar Loaf and Christ at twilight, an amazing sight to behold. The schooner is equipped with bathrooms, dance floor, music, an area just to chill, and plenty of nibbles to munch on while enjoying an OPEN BAR!
Once we disembark from the boat, we can either party at Flamengo Beach, which is just a short stroll from the marina, or go back to the hotel to relax and get ready for another exciting night out on the town in Rio! We will have our guides on hand to explain all your options for enjoying the night before you.
For those of you who reserved a Samba School Costume to wear in the Sambadrome Parade tonight, our crew will be back at the hotel waiting for you. Your costume will be delivered to your hotel room the day before, giving you more than enough time to get yourself ready for the Parade. Once everyone is dressed and ready to go, our guide will accompany the group to the meeting place on Avenue Presidente Vargas.
Everyone will meet 1 to 2 hours prior to the school parade's scheduled time, which is usually sometime between 7:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. The specific time will be announced ahead of time. Guests who opted not to wear a costume are still invited to meet up on Avenue Presidente Vargas to watch everyone prepare. You certainly will not get bored! Make sure you bring your cameras! This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will remember forever . . .
This morning you have the option of taking a City Tour that would include Christ and Sugar Loaf or you can take the Favela Tour.
You might just prefer to just relax on the beach. For those who want to go as a group to the beach, our guide will be in the lobby to meet you at 10:00 a.m. to take you on the metro so you can enjoy the sun at Leblon and/or the famous Ipanema beach.
Or, if you want to continue partying, our guides are happy to accompany everyone to the most exciting bloco street parties going on in Rio today!
The main event of the entire week is tonight! Our guides will escort everyone to the Sunday Night Parade happening at the Sambadrome!! This is when all the top samba schools have these incredibly outrageous floats in the parade, with everyone wearing the most amazing costumes. We as guests will be watching from above sitting in the stands. Our tickets are in Section 12-13, which is known for being the liveliest and most fun because of all the locals. The seats are not assigned, as these are simply concrete bleachers. Everyone watching stands up and cheers while the samba schools cross the finish line! This is what Carnival is all about!!
If you like, you can always upgrade to sit in another section for a better view and without such a rowdy crowd. Before leaving, we will all get together in the hotel lobby for our usual daily drinks, which are included, and to have your face painted by our amazing artist. We will have a professional photographer on hand to capture all the fun, so Sunday night would be the perfect night to get all dressed up in something fitting for celebrating Carnival!
There will be a ton of singing and dancing with the local Cariocas all coming out to support their own samba schools, just like we support our own football team! The Cariocas have the words to the "anthems" all memorized and will be singing their hearts out. This is a local tradition, a wonderful experience for all that continues on until the early hours of the next morning!
Some of you will certainly want to take some time to recover from the madness of last night's parade, so feel free to take the day off. BUT, for those who want to continue partying, you have the option of going with our guides this morning to one of the very BEST blocos ever . . . AND drinks are covered!
As usual, our guides will meet you at breakfast to tell you what's going on, answer your questions and give you the ideas and tips you'll need on where to go today.
For those of you who want to go as a group to the beach, our guides are happy to take you over to Copacabana for the afternoon. Our trip to the beach will end with us seeing the famous sunset over Dois Irmãos Mountains from Arpoador Rock. We will join the locals in clapping as the sun goes down on the horizon. Guests who want to remain and linger in Rio's South Zone, our guides will gladly help you find parties, restaurants or night time markets where you can shop in Copacabana.
Today you will discover some of the iconic sites of Rio! Departing mid-morning after breakfast, your half-day guided tour first takes you through the National Park of Tijuca, on the way to Corcovado and the world famous statue of Christ the Redeemer. You can't leave Rio without a visit to the iconic statue, sitting on top of a mountain, and providing the best views of all of Rio de Janeiro.
Also on your city tour, you will visit the historic neighbourhood of Santa Teresa to check-out old mansions, colorful graffiti and art galleries, plus the still operating old tram. Next, you take in the tiled steps crafted by the late Selaron, with its incredible artworks paying homage to Brazilian life.
On your return to the hotel it is time for a quick rest before the guides have you out on the streets again to experience another amazing Bloco & street party, accompanied by your free drinks for the day. Or if you would prefer, you could take the afternoon off to take a Favela tour or visit the Sugarloaf Mountain, and then return for the night's activities as the guide escort you to the best parties in Rio.
Our amazing Carnival Package officially ends after breakfast today. Today is yours to do as you please. Hotel checkout is at midday.
