Getting to the Pantanal!

Where is the Pantanal?

The Pantanal is located in the Brazilian central-western states of Mato Grosso do Sul and Mato Grosso along with northern Paraguay and eastern Bolivia. The majority of people whom visit the Pantanal enter from the regions south and usually start out from the city of Campo Grande. The main entrance to the southern region of the Panatanal is via a tiny town called Buraco das Piranhas which is 6 hours from Campo Grande. From here paved roads give way to dirt roads which service the many cattle ranches of the area, but also provide acess into areas with a high concentration of wildlife.

Generally, travelers who fly to Brazil enter via Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo, so if you're preparing to visit the Pantanal through Campo Grande from those cities (as most people do), be ready for overnight buses as the Pantanal is located on the otherside of the country. If you are thinking of visiting the Panatanal after seeing the Iguassu Falls then you will need to take a bus from the city of Foz do Iguacu to Campo Grande.

What is the Pantanal?

Most people think of the Amazon when you mention Brazilian wildlife, but few who go to the Amazon actually see a lot of animals. This is not the case if you visit the lesser known Pantanal located around Brazil's border with Bolivia. The Pantanal is among the most astounding, pristine and biologically prosperous locations on earth. This region is the world's most significant freshwater wetland system, brought on by an enormous landlocked river delta where yearly floodwaters frequently elevate by a few meters after which recede encouraging a unique ecosystem to flourish.

Stretching over a huge section of western Brazil, by visiting the Pantanal you can discover an amazing concentration of varied plant life and animals, which truly make it among the world's greatest natural wonders. Here you will experience the sights and sounds of an ecological paradise featuring an abundance of bird species, capuchin and howler monkeys, capybaras, toucans, macaws, anacondas, caimans, otters and tapirs to name a few. Plus it is one of the few remaining homes of the endangered jaguar.

Testimonial

'The trip was fantastic. Really enjoyed all the activities that were included and paid for beforehand so I could just get on with enjoying my holiday instead of thinking about organising things. The transport was efficient and well organised, and the suggested accommodation was some of the best I have stayed in. I think the highlight was the 3 day Pantanal tour- amazing wildlife, relaxing surroundings and Johnny was amazing at taking care of everything and ensuring everything was running as intended. Thank you for helping me sort out my trip!'
