DAY 1: CUSCO - SANTA MARIA (BIKE & RAFT)
We will pick you up from your hostel in Cusco and transfer you to the Malaga High Pass (altitude: 4,350 meters) where you will have a safety briefing before jumping on your mountain bikes for your descent from the cool high Andes to the tropical humid jungle while visiting the Huamanmarka Archaeological site along the way. Your biking adventure will take you through creeks and fruit plantations arriving to the village of Santa Maria. After a break it is time for a scenic your rafting down class II & III rapids on the Urubamba or Vilcanota River for 3 hours. Tonight you will bunker down in a hostel in Santa Maria.
DAY 2: SANTA MARIA - SANTA TERESA (HIKE)
Commence your day with a hike through mountains and jungle to discover amazing captivating vistas; plus warm and welcoming regional people. We will climb up the mountain for about 1 ½ hours, to the highest point, where we can admire the entire valley and the slopes of the canyon. A section of this hike is part of an original Inca trail that reached the village of Quellomayo. By afternoon you will reach the village of Santa Teresa where you have time to relax in thermal pools before spending a night in another hostel.
DAY 3: SANTA TERESA - AGUAS CALIENTES (ZIP-LINE & HIKE)
Soar through the treetops on South America's highest canopy zip-line which comprises of more than 2,500 meters of cables with 400 meters being the longest and 150 meters the highest rides of the day. Time to embark on your 4-6 hour trek down the train tracks to access Aguas Calientes which is the town found closest to Machu Picchu. This afternoon you have free time to chill out in hot springs again to prepare for the next days climax - visiting Machu Picchu!
DAY 4: MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO (WALK AND VISIT OF THE INCA CITY)
Rising early you take the tourist bus up to Machu Picchu for your tour with an English speaking guide who will explain the Incan historyof this enchanting site. Following the tour you will have time to explore on your own and if you feel up to it why not climb to Inti Punku or Wayna Picchu (entrance not included). At a designated time you will meet for your afternoon train to Ollantaytambo to take the final journey by bus to Cuzco dropping you at your hostel.
Is this trip for you?
The first day you will be riding downhill for at least 5 hours, and on this day you do not carry your own belongings as there is a support car for this. On the second day you will carry all your things while you trek and the third day you carry your belongings for only two hours. There are no porters on this trip! This trip involves some shared accommodation, and hot showers only on the last night. You need only take a small backpack with you, and leave your big backpack at your accommodation in Cusco while on this trip.
